Safe Sanctuary Policy

Safe Sanctuaries is the name commonly given by local United Methodist Annual Conferences and local churches to their individual efforts to make conference, district, and local church programs welcoming and safe for children. At Munsey we seek to do this by having at least two adults (non-related) on hand at all of our children’s events or classes, by observing good adult-child ratios, by having adults accompany their children to and from children’s activities, by doing back-ground checks on all paid staff, and by offering safe sanctuaries training and requiring background verification from all of our volunteers.

Because we are a public facility, with doors wide open to our community, we do ask that adults accompany children at all times in our building. Parents are asked to sign their children in on both our nursery and elementary floors on Sunday Mornings.

As part of our safe sanctuary effort we also keep the parking lot doors to the preschool wing locked, and ask that our church family use the sanctuary entrance to enter the building when parking on the Market Street side.
Greeters and members of the Munsey Safety team are available to be extra helping hands in keeping our hallways secure.   A police officer is also on duty during Sunday morning and Wednesday evening programs.
